Naomi O'Connell

Recently hailed by the New York Times as "a radiant mezzo-soprano" for her portrayal of Monteverdi's Ottavia, Naomi O'Connell is a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City where she studied with Dr Robert White.

An international prizewinner, Ms. O'Connell was recently awarded first prize in the 2011 Concert Artists Guild competition and the Altamura/Caruso International Singing Competition.  Past awards include the Makiko Narumi award for Outstanding Mezzo-soprano from The Juilliard School, the First Prize in Operetta at the 2008 International Belvedere Competition in Vienna, three prizes at the 2007 Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition and the inaugural John McCormack Vocal Bursary in 2007.

Equally at home on the recital platform as the operatic stage, Ms. O'Connell has performed with the New York Festival of Song, Marlboro Music Festival and Steans Musical Instiute at Ravinia, Chicago. She made her Lincoln Center debut in the Juilliard Honors Recital at Alice Tully Hall in 2010.

Operatic roles include Ravel's Conception and L'enfant, Monteverdi's Ottavia, Purcell's Dido, Handel's Ariodante, Bizet's Carmen and Mozart's Cherubino.

Ms. O'Connell was brought up in the west of Ireland where she began her vocal studies with Archie Simpson and graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music in 2008, where she studied with Mary Brennan.

Her performances have been broadcasted in the United States on WQXR and in Ireland on RTE television, Lyric FM, Clare FM and Radio One.

Upcoming performances include her operatic debut with Garsington Opera later this summer, performing the title role in Offenbach's La Périchole and her debut recital at Carnegie Hall in March 2013.
